This year The Heiskell School is once again participating in Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse. Look for information in your child's folder and in this week's newsletter giving you instructions on how to pack a shoebox and the type of items you may purchase.
I have packed a Christmas shoebox for the last several years. Last year my husband and I each chose to pack a box, one for a boy and one for a girl. We went shopping together and found gifts for our shoeboxes. At church we heard a story about someone writing a letter in a Christmas shoebox for a boy. When the boy received the box with the letter, he wrote back to the family saying that he was an orphan. To make a long story short, the family who packed the shoebox ended up adopting this little boy.
We had a fun afternoon in Kindergarten Plus when Mr. Hugo, our faithful maintenance worker, came to share about his home country of Paraguay. Did you know the people drink tea throughout the day and carry it in a special container? Soccer is one of the favorite sports, and children go to school either in the morning or in the afternoon. One of the world's largest waterfalls is also in Paraguay.
Be sure to mark your calenders and join the kindergarten teachers for an informative workshop tomorrow evening, Tuesday, October 12, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. You will learn helpful information about the curriculum and ways you can help your little one at home.
We will be meeting in Miss Pat's Kindergarten Classroom.
We have all heard that Miss Pat dances on the table, but only her students know for sure. The Kindergarten Plus children saw Miss Pat dance with Mr. Hugo when he visited the class to tell us about his homeland in Paraguay. What a surprise we all had when Mr. Hugo asked us to play music from his country and invited Miss Pat to dance with him!
One of great fun things we get to do in Kindergarten Plus!
Kindergarten children are learning responsibility by doing early morning jobs. Driving the tricycles out to the playground is one of those important jobs. Our children love riding the tricycles during playground time.
One of our own Kindergarten Plus teachers, Miss Kenna, grew up in Colombia where her parents were missionaries with New Tribes. The children enjoyed a wonderful visit from "Grandma" and "Grandpa" and were able to take a plane trip to Colombia for the day. Grandma sang songs in Spanish and some of our little ones were able to dress up as Colombians and Indians from the tribal jungle.
Miss Kenna introduces her parents to the children.
